To say I love teaching BoxFit / Boxercise is an understatement. I just love seeing the progress women make, not just physically but mentally. For me, it is more than just exercise, I believe…
“BoxFit helps women to connect with their inner strength, uncovering their inner warrior, that many repress to fulfil their competing obligations and roles. Boxing is that one time women get to fully connect with themselves, release, sweat and beat the crap out of the pads!”
It’s true, BoxFit provides women with the possibility that they are and can be bad ass bitches with super powers! The modern day super-heroine, where by day they maybe a housewife or mother but at night they come alive and get to invent a new persona, express and indulge their inner desires. (Ok I may be getting carried away!)
But it provides a moment, a place where women can fully connect with themselves, outside of their normal schedule and duties and really find out what they are made of. Are you passive, defensive or an aggressor? For some women, it may be the only me-time they get to fully focus on themselves. For others, it maybe the releasing of frustration, stress and pent up emotion, which is cathartic. Or a combination of both.
Even if initially, it’s just purely for the physical benefits, because boxing has been traditionally targeted to men, BoxFit allows women to not only tap into their fighting spirit but release and express some masculine energy as well. No matter what your background is or age, it is relevant to all walks of life.
For example, because many of these women, myself included, have literally being fighting in one or another all of our life, it seems only natural to want to also express or channel this frustration through our fitness regime. We all need an outlet.
When people ask me why I do Muay Thai, I usually joke that it helps me from wanting to the beat the crap out of someone in the street! But it’s my tonic, it keeps me straight, a channel that proves me with something positive to focus on. I never stay bored as there is always something more to develop, more strength, fitness, endurance, flexibility, discipline.
Also the training is often a mirror of our external reality, challenges and battles. Highlighting what other areas of our life we require support with. Being more disciplined? Focused? Flexible? Balanced? Strong?
In my classes I have not only seen women transform physically, but witnessed a mental shift in their confidence, strength and resilience developed through the discipline of their training and fitness goals. It’s awesome and is exactly the fuel that helps me to continue. I often receive phone calls and text messages from students about how the training has helped them from their diet, fitness, at home and in relationships. The most empowering improvement is where it has increased their confidence and self-esteem, enabling them to be and do more.
So lastly here are my 5 Top Reasons to BoxFit
- Confidence
It helps provide you with some bad ass confidence, if you can suffer the often gruelling regime – what else can you do?
- Stress
In this fast-paced digital world it’ a great way to release stress and frustration positively.
- Fitness
Let’s not forget it’s one of the best physical workouts, unlike many other activities it targets upper body strength and includes cardio, muscle, strength and endurance.
- Catalyst
The training is often a catalyst to make other lifestyle improvements, e.g. diet, sleep patterns and discipline.
- Mindfulness
Ironically it can help you stay mindful and present, as to become distracted could cause you to get knocked the f*@k out!
Ladies if you haven’t tried it, please give it a go, I started in my 30’s, if I can do it anyone can!
