3 Herbal Teas for Women’s Health

women tea

I am a great advocate of herbal teas to support women’s health and all the issues we go through at different stages of womanhood.  Herbal teas are really nature’s way of helping with our hormones, mood, digestion and sleep.

If you have ever drunk beetroot juice and seen your urine turn red,  you will begin to appreciate the power and effective use of the drinks we consume on our body.  For me, I rely on dried herbs/teas to balance my hormones, regulate bloating and help with my upcoming menopausal issues e.g. hot flushes (I know I’ve started early).

Some teas have shown effective results when it comes to assistance in the maintenance of relief of menstrual pains and other cycle related problems. Some may assist with hot flushes, sweats, aches and pains at night.  Some have been shown to help maintain a healthy reproductive system.

So below I have complied three of my favourite herbal teas supporting women’s health.  Please be mindful if you are pregnant or breast feeding and consult your GP if you are unsure.

  1. Fennel tea

Fennel

Fennel tea – My tummy flattening tea helps reduce bloating, drink after meals.

Fennel tea is a delicious and popular variety of tea, with an anise taste that helps prevent and relieve muscle spasms, improve digestion, and treat gastrointestinal issues such as irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhoea, heartburn, flatulence, and stomach cramps.

Fennel tea has also been shown to help with hormonal imbalances caused by menopause and menstrual discomfort.

However women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should speak to their GP before consuming.

  1. Raspberry Leaf Tea

Raspberry

Raspberry Leaf – Uterus detoxifier & pelvic strengthener!

Raspberry Leaf tea is a popular uterine tonic, as it strengthens the uterine wall and clears out toxins.  It is commonly used to induce labour and red raspberry leaves contain fragarine, a plant compound that helps tone and tighten muscles in the pelvic area, which may reduce the menstrual cramping caused by the spasms of these muscles. It’s also high in vitamin C.

  1. Marigold Tea

Marigold

Marigold Tea – Hormonal balancer.

Helps regulate of the processes that take place in the female reproductive system such as easing menstrual pains and difficulties. It has also been observed to aid in regulating the production of estrogen.

Also because of its antibacterial, anti-yeast and anti-fungal properties, Marigold is helpful in the treatment of Thrush, with the tea traditionally used to relieve oral thrush.

Other herbs/teas supporting women’s health are said to be Yarrow, Red Clover and Black Cohosh which are claimed to help balance hormones and reduce menstrual blood flow and length of periods. These can all be brewed in teas that when drunk twice a day, offer effective relief by balancing the amount of progesterone and estrogen hormones in a woman’s body.  But do your research!

3 other beneficial teas which should be drank regularly to aid our overall health and wellbeing….

1. Nettle Tea

Helps control blood sugar in patients with diabetes, reduce bleeding connected to gingivitis, treat disorders of the kidneys and urinary tract and provide relief from water retention and prevent or treat diarrhoea and great relief for seasonal allegies.  It’s also said to stimulate hair growth!

2. Peppermint Tea

Improves digestion, reduces pain, and eliminates inflammation.  It relaxes the body and mind and the active component menthol is said to cure bad breath.  It also said to aid weight loss, boosts the immune system, prevent nausea & vomiting and can be blended with fennel and ginger.

3. Ginger Tea

Contains high levels of Vitamin C and magnesium and is claimed to fight respiratory problems, reduce inflammation and improve blood circulation.

There are probably a whole host of teas not mentioned in this blog that are beneficial but these are just my regular tea choices that have been beneficial for me in easing some of my female issues away and provide well needed healing.  If you have any favourites please let me know.

All in all, I hope you agree there is definitely something to be achieved by not just drinking black tea and coffee!
